The Hair Look:

The Hair Look:

For a low-slung ponytail that subtly nods to ‘70s style without losing itself to the past, follow these tips from Sebastian Professional lead stylist Thomas Dunkin:

1. Apply Sebastian Professional Texturizer throughout damp hair.

2. Blow-dry hair using only your hands to create unkempt, natural texture and a sporty flair.

3. When the hair is nearly dry, spritz Volupt Spray for added texture and then dry hair completely. For extreme texture add another dose of Volupt Spray to hair and blow dry again.

4. Finally, part hair down the middle and fasten it back with a tie just below the eyes. Create height to the crown by lightly pushing and pulling the hair forward, away from the tie. To add definition or tame fly-aways, apply a small amount of Matte Putty to fingers and style as desired.

The Iconic Musical HAIR continues its relationship with Bumble and bumble as its Exclusive Hair Care Partner as it makes the move to Broadway

Last summer’s twice-extended, sold-out production of HAIR: The American Tribal Love-Rock Musical, is moving to Broadway and Bumble and bumble is along for the ride, continuing their relationship with the show as its exclusive hair care partner.

As part of the relationship, Bumble and bumble, the groundbreaking hair care and styling product company with two leading salons in New York City, granted Michael McDonald, Costume Designer for HAIR, full access to its services and products. McDonald said, “The 60s hippie hair never had it so good. With Bumble and bumble cut and color and their gentle shampoos and conditioners, “hippies” for the new millennium can get that natural look that never seems to go out of style.”

Bumble and bumble stylists worked closely with McDonald to make sure the hair of HAIR remains true to its concept – locks with great natural texture, with a flower child edge.

The Bumble salon paired HAIR’s actors with seasoned Bb. Stylists for cut and color, imparting subtle tweaks to the actors’ long locks to bring out the natural curl. Bumble’s ingenuity with the razor and scissors made the most of each actor’s hair texture. The envy-inducing volume and curls you’ll see on stage are au naturel, enhanced by Bumble’s skillful hairdressing and products. Several actors’ tresses were also given natural looking yet brilliant color thanks to Bumble’s creative hair painting techniques. The Bumble salons were among the first to incorporate shading at the root and bayalage color application, a process that uses a painter’s brush to paint individual strands of hair, creating customized highlight patterns. These techniques are now emulated by other salons.

To maintain hair health throughout the run of the show, Bb. stylists provided each actor with the right products for his or her style as well as tips on how to use them. Some received styling products, such as Surf Spray or Grooming Creme for texture, or Curl Reactivating Mist to boost waves, while others were prescribed the right shampoo and conditioner to keep their tresses in top-notch condition.

The end result of all this work and care is that the hair feels effortless, and as most hairdressers will agree – the ‘natural’ look is usually far from natural as it takes work to get it there.

Toronto Fashion Week Spring and Summer 2009

The theme was "Fabulous" as L'Oréal Toronto Fashion Week dominated the downtown core of Toronto once again showcasing the collections for Spring and Summer 2009.
This year an extra venue had been added for incubator shows. Known as "The Studio", it was attached to the east end of the main tent, and featured such designers as Katya Revenko, Bodybag by Jude, and the students of Fanshawe College.
The Spring and Summer 2009 collections reflect the sign of the times.....
From the multitude shades of grey, to the flapper depression of the 1920’s drop waist dresses, the collections project the sober atmosphere in which we currently live.
The strong trends of the 80’s are most definitely back, and with it comes: cute tiered skirts, flowing tunics in a ray of citrus colours, cocoon cut dresses and the sweetheart necklines all at Jason Meyers, harem pants in beautiful draped jersey, were evident at NADA and perfecto biker jackets rocked the runways at Zoran Dobric.
There were many variations of detailing that seems to have been channelling from different eras this season. Mandarin collars were standing tall at League of Lovers and Thieves, while ruche detailing up side seams of garments and sleeves as well as floral prints and motifs spread wildly at KARAMEA. Palazzo pants flowed down the catwalks of Carlie Wong and the old school Hollywood beautiful flowing gowns were in full force at Lucian Matis.
Colours were splashing madly throughout the collections for this upcoming Spring season. Citrus yellow, rich deep cranberries and plums, bold mauves and screaming metallic silver and golds, soft dusky roses and colt blues provided a balance from the other side of the colour spectrum of the sober but, shimmering steel blues, neutral taupes, blacks and greys. As always for spring, the typical black and whites were present.
Fabrications that made headway for spring....jersey, which fell in beautiful folds on harem pants and cowl backed gowns, satin was quite clearly a strong trend in everything from sexy short suits, cropped vests, free flowing tunics to the pleat gathered waist pencils skirts with slit pockets. Lace was used to accessize cap sleeves and ruffles on blouses.
Carlie Wong’s show was a favourite of this Spring season’s collections. Sponsored by LG, Carlie used LG products to accessize her chic wears. Fresh trench dresses were edgy and crisp, cute flirty shorts, and ultra sexy romper suits with feminine sophisticated ruffle necklines were chic and so divinely elegant. Smart jumpsuits with plunging and asymmetrical necklines and sweet bubble skirts, made this collection amongst the finest to stand out during the weeks’ shows. The standing ovation she received at the end of the show was quite clearly deserved. All I can say is ....Fabulous job Carlie!!
